“We chose Avalon Village because of the location, cottage design and value, but have experienced new friends from various backgrounds, privacy when wanted,
social life when desired, thus the best in retirement living!”

or people who love to enjoy social activities both at home and around the region, Avalon Village Retirement Community provides monthly calendars with a
myriad of things to do and places to visit.
The Equestrian Room at the Manor House is where friends often gather to shoot a game of pool, throw darts, and enjoy Men’s Poker - a favorite bi-weekly
evening activity. The big open main living room becomes the perfect setting for line dancing, a fun way to exercise and learn new dance steps. It also
provides a friendly setting for other groups to gather, including Hampden’s Adult Education.
For entertaining music is often heard in the living room,
featuring fine musicians from the Bangor Symphony Orchestra, or talented players from the community. Pub Nights feature Cooperative Director
Andy Stewart performing on his guitar with friends while attendees sip on wine and beer and munch pretzels, cheese and fruits dipped in a chocolate
fountain. The grand piano in the parlor often gets its ivory keys tickled, too.
In the upper living room at the Manor House, one finds an inviting space for more socializing, exercising on one of three strength building machines,
reading, or gazing out the French doors at the Penobscot River, far below. Friends gather weekly to play bridge and favorite board games.
Two beautiful dining rooms seat up to 30 people, and feature breathtaking views of the Penobscot River, a stone fireplace, and wall mural of 19th Century
Bangor painted by the former owner of the Edythe Dyer estate. Men’s Breakfast, Ladies Who Lunch, First Friday Wine & Cheese receptions, and catered dining
several times each month keep the two dining rooms at the Manor House filled with happy and content residents and guests.
The Avalon Activities Committee meets monthly to sustain, explore and develop new opportunities that residents and guests may enjoy. Maine is full of
beautiful sights to see year round and many fun spots to visit. A summer excursion was filled to capacity when a group from Avalon ventured down the road
to nearby Bucksport for a stop at the new Penobscot Narrows Bridge, where an observatory at the top of one of
its 42 story tall obelisks provides the most spectacular views to be found.
Whether venturing near or far, residents at Avalon are never short on activities to do or sights to see. With its central location within two hours of
Downeast Maine and Machias to the east; Maine’s largest city, Portland, to the south; the Canadian border at Houlton to the north; or the western mountains
and ski resorts of Appalachian Maine, Avalon Village is at the heart of Maine’s world renown natural beauty.
