“It was providential that we came here to Avalon. Carolyn and I believe it is the best decision we have ever made. Because even though
we moved here from rural Kentucky we had no idea how much it was going to mean to us once we got here. The library, the manor house and
the 100 year old pine grove, the river … it’s just a perfect setting for retirement. The community has grown now into a maturity where
everyone seems to be 98 if not 99% happy. It’s just a great place to live.”

he Manor House at Avalon Village is at the center of community life. Situated 175 feet above the Penobscot River, the setting for the beautiful mansion features one of the oldest stands of pines in the Pine Tree State. The majestic trees, the stately building, and the breathtaking views of the Penobscot are a welcome site any time of year for residents and visitors alike. The Manor House is the perfect setting for weddings, parties, social activities, meetings, and fine dining year round.
The Manor House features ten lovely rental suites where residents enjoy many of the same amenities as the cottage residents in the village below. Each suite includes a kitchenette, full bath, spacious closets, and a spacious living area. Many have their own unique characteristics, such as bay windows with commanding views of the Penobscot, private balconies, fireplaces, or built-in storage units.
Men’s pancake breakfasts, ladies’ luncheons, Kentucky Derby parties, men’s poker, Avalon’s book club, lecture series such as History with a Twist, flu shot clinics, wine & cheese receptions, exercise equipment use, pub night, games (from the full size pool table to Scrabble), line dancing, Friday dining, movie nights on the big screen TV …. a short list of the host of ongoing activities that abound at the Manor House for each Avalon Village resident. The Activities Committee membership comprises Avalon residents themselves, who create activities and programs that they know will be welcomed and enjoyed by participants.
Public events are held at the Manor House as well. At a recent quilt exhibit, 200 handcrafted quilts were put on display for 300 visitors to view and enjoy. The grand foyer, living room, Equestrian room, dining room, and upper living room areas became exhibit space, providing unique galleries for the fine exhibit.
Walking routes that extend over a mile connect the Manor House to the Penobscot River banks, the tall pines, the Edythe L. Dyer Community Library, and the Village neighborhood. The trails are ideal for taking favorite canine friends for daily walks. An Avalon pooch is a happy pooch, indeed! Whether one has the motivation of walking the dog, bird watching or otherwise enjoying the abundance of treasures from Mother Nature’s cornucopia, the beautiful trails provide plenty of reasons to get outside and enjoy the 60 acre site at Avalon Village at any time of year.
